10 things this past year has taught me

"You are a goal and accountability coach."

If you told me this a year ago, I would have said you were mad.

Wow. This day last year I was a live event manager.

How times change.

Like me, you have your own Covid story and, like me, you are probably thinking that it was this week last year that everything changed.

My gamechanger came on March 4 when I got the first phone call that my event, due to take place in 4 weeks and we had worked on it for many months, was being pushed out. So began the great exodus. The entire live event industry quickly felt the effects and all live events, be it conferences, seminars, tradeshows, festivals, concerts and any others you can think of, were cancelled and have not returned since.

I could go down that rabbit-hole, but for the purposes of this email, I'm not going to.

Instead I am going to share the 10 valuable lessons that this year has highlighted for me and my business.

  1. No one will give you permission to be successful. You have to decide for yourself.

  2. When your back is against the wall, you find out what you are made of and what you truly want.

  3. In crisis there is definitely opportunity. You just have to grasp it.

  4. Rest is an essential part of being productive.

  5. Decide what you want, and what you don't. And then commit to live that way.

  6. Watch what and who you listen to. It all rents space in your head.

  7. Value yourself. Invest in yourself. It’s the best decision you can make.

  8. Sometimes you need to take one step back to take two steps forward.

  9. Play to your strengths instead of torturing yourself about your weaknesses.

  10. Acknowledge how you are feeling and work through that. Don't try and suppress it because it will do you no good.

It is more obvious to think about what this year has taken from us, but just like remembering and celebrating our wins, what have we gained from this time? What good things have you learned this past year?

For me it was the start of a new business, a new confidence and a new life.

And just imagine what can happen in the year ahead because of this!

Take care, stay well, stay positive.

Gemma
